The quick answer
You adjust a Tempur-Pedic base with its wireless remote: head and foot buttons raise each end, Zero Gravity and other presets move both at once, and Flat returns the bed to level. If the remote stops working, check the batteries and Child Lock, unplug the base for 60 seconds, then re-pair the remote if needed. Button names and pairing steps change by model (Ease, Ergo, Ergo Smart, ProSmart), so find your model first.
An adjustable base is easy to enjoy and annoying to fix. The remote is the only control, so when it stops responding the bed can be stuck half raised, or stuck flat. Most of the time it's something small: a locked remote, weak batteries, or a remote that lost its link to the base after a power cut.
This page covers the remote's controls, the fixes Tempur-Pedic lists for a base that stops working, how to pair a remote, and what the official headboard bracket guide says. Model details are from Tempur-Pedic's own help center and remote page.
Find Your Model First
Tempur-Pedic sells and has sold several bases, and the steps differ between them. Its current list includes the Ergo ProSmart, Ergo ProSmart Air, Ergo Power, Ergo Smart and Ease Power bases. Older models such as Ease 2.0 and 3.0 and Ergo Premier are listed as prior models.
Tempur-Pedic's pairing article says to identify your base from the pictures of the base and remote on its help center. The serial number is on the warranty card or the back of the remote, and Tempur-Pedic asks for it if you call customer service. Write it down before you call.

What the Remote Controls Do
Tempur-Pedic's remote page lists these functions. Which ones you have depends on the base:
- Head Position and Foot Position: raise and lower each section.
- Bed Flat: returns the head and foot to flat and stops any running massage.
- Zero Gravity: adjusts the legs to take pressure off the lower back.
- Favorite: calls a preset position you can reprogram. The remote page doesn't give the steps, so use your owner's manual.
- TV in Bed: moves the head and foot into a position for watching TV (Ergo, Ergo Extend, Ergo Smart and ProSmart models).
- Anti-Snore and QuietMode: slightly raise the head, or gently tilt the mattress, to help open airways, depending on model.
- Lumbar Support: adjusts lower back support on the Ergo Power.
- Underbed lighting and massage modes: on models that include them.
Higher models add features such as SoundScape, All-Night Cooling and Bed Warming on the ProSmart Air, per the same page. Check the page for your model before buying a replacement remote, since remotes differ.
Child Lock
A locked remote looks broken. Tempur-Pedic's troubleshooting steps list Child Lock as a check on every model it covers. On its remote page, Tempur-Pedic says to press and hold HEAD UP and HEAD DOWN together for about six seconds. The backlight flashes twice, then goes out when the lock is on. Repeat the same press to turn it off.
That is the sequence the page gives for its Ergo and Ease remotes. If yours doesn't respond, look for Child Lock in your owner's manual, since remotes vary.
If the Base Stops Working
Tempur-Pedic's help articles for the Ergo Smart, Ergo Power and Ergo Extend bases give the same checklist. Work through it in this order:
- Look under the bed. Make sure the wired connections are secure and that no cords or bedding are blocking the base.
- Check that the LED light on the control box is lit. If it isn't, confirm the input and power cords are connected.
- Unplug the base for 60 seconds. Tempur-Pedic says this resets the electronic components.
- Plug it into a different outlet, or test the outlet with another working appliance. A grounded surge protector is recommended.
- For the remote: check that the batteries are installed correctly or replace them, make sure Child Lock is off, and confirm the remote is paired.
If none of that works, call customer service. The pairing article lists U.S. 1-800-499-1965 and Canada 1-800-268-4414. Keep hands, feet and pets clear of the base when you test it. That last point is our advice, not from Tempur-Pedic.
Be careful with web guides that tell you to hold a hidden reset button on the remote for 10 seconds. We found those only on third-party sites, and Tempur-Pedic's own steps use the 60 second unplug and the PAIR button instead.

Pair Your Remote
The remote in the box is already paired with the base. You only need to pair when you've got a replacement remote or the link has dropped. These steps come from Tempur-Pedic's pairing article for the Ergo Power, Ergo Smart and Ease Power bases. They are time-sensitive, so read them all before starting.
Ergo Power and Ergo Smart
- Slide the rear cover off the remote to expose the PAIR button.
- Unplug the base power cord, wait 1 minute, then plug it back in.
- Within 10 seconds, while the control box light is flashing, press and hold PAIR. It lights up and flashes.
- When PAIR stops flashing, the control box light stops flashing too. Release the button.
- Test all remote functions. If nothing moves, repeat once, then call customer service.
Ease Power
- Put fresh batteries in the remote.
- Unplug the power cord, wait 1 minute and plug it back in. On a second generation Ease, press the POWER DOWN button twice on the battery backup box so its light comes on.
- Slide the rear cover off the remote.
- Within 10 seconds, press and hold PAIR until it stops flashing and the light on the backup box goes out. Release it.
- Test the remote. If it still fails, repeat, and check Child Lock.
The ProSmart, ProSmart Air, Ergo Extend and Ergo Premier have their own sequences. The ProSmart adds a spoken "Bluetooth Mode" cue from the soundbar. The Premier uses a different method with the FLAT and STOP buttons. Open the pairing article for those.
Attach a Headboard
A standard headboard won't attach to an adjustable base by itself, because the base is not a bed frame. Tempur-Pedic sells a headboard bracket accessory kit. Its help center says a hex key is needed and is included in the accessory box, and that other tools may be needed for your headboard, so check the headboard's own manual.
Tempur-Pedic's installation guide for the Ergo ProSmart Air shows the general sequence. Your model may differ, so use the guide that came with your kit:
- Lay the base on its side.
- Line up the hole in each headboard bracket with the brass sleeve where the leg threads in. Hold it in place and screw in the leg until snug. The guide says not to overtighten, because too much force can make the leg spin freely.
- Secure each bracket to the frame near the foot end of the base with a short bolt and wingnut. Make sure the bolt is tight.
- Measure the distance between the mounting holes on your headboard, then slide the T-bracket through the end of the headboard bracket and fasten it with two short screws and the hex key.
- Connect the headboard to the attachment plate with the long screws or the hardware that came with the headboard, bolt heads facing outward.
Two people make this easier. A base is heavy, and the weight of the mattress goes on after the headboard.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reset my Tempur-Pedic adjustable base?
Tempur-Pedic's help center says to unplug the base for 60 seconds to reset the electronic components, then plug it back in. Check the control box LED and the cords first.
Why won't my Tempur-Pedic remote work?
Check the batteries, check that Child Lock is off, and make sure the remote is paired with the base. Tempur-Pedic lists those three checks for the remote, and the base checks above if the bed itself is the problem.
How do I pair a new remote?
Slide off the back cover, unplug the base for 1 minute, plug it in, and within 10 seconds hold the PAIR button until it stops flashing. The details differ by model, so follow the pairing article for yours.
How do I set my favorite position?
The remote page lists Favorite as a reprogrammable preset but doesn't give steps. Use your owner's manual for your model, or call customer service.
Do I need tools to attach a headboard?
You need the hex key that comes in the accessory box. Tempur-Pedic says other tools may be needed for your specific headboard, so check its manual.
